DSG problems, paintwork issues, buzzing noise, petrol cap, suspension noise, headlight switch etc. So many problems in a brand new car, starting to regret ordering the car early and this thread is really starting to kill the excitement, especially for some of us who are still waiting for delivery.

£75 to fill up my MK6 GT TSI 1.4 petrol and £60 to fill the GTD up on more expensive diesel - 360 miles from full whereas previous 2.0LTR diesels (megane sport for example) 600 from full !

Wouldn't be the first company to use customers for testing. Things are rusted out far too quickly nowadays. 
Its actually one of the main things that killed the British car industry and caused the Germans to take over with better engineering and customer service. The germans are heading the same way as the british did.

Residuals are the what keep me buying German. If I was to buy a sub 50% GFV car, id probably buy nearly new (6 - 12 months old) rather than new.

I would say quality perception is high on a VAG car (and on most German cars in general). It gives the impression of being solid/bulletproof, but of course it's reliability is average these days. It's a good job the Japs make such staid looking cars (in the main), or I might find myself in one of Honda's offerings.

Sometimes though, I think warranty work is to be expected on a new car - 10,000 components on there, most not made by the VAG group - I expect a few warranty issues to be ironed out. By far the most reliable VWs I have ever had were my 2 Sciroccos. One of them (the 170) didn't need any warranty work at all. In my 6 previous VWs I have never had an immobilising defect.

That's as much about your sh!te mpg as it is about the small tank size. I suspect that in order to fit in with the supposedly better mpg of the previous gen (bullsh!t!), we didn't need such a big tank. I think most GTDers here expected 500 - 600 miles from a tank (50 - 60mpg) with normal mixed driving. I'm getting about 420 miles out of a 10 gallon fill (42mpg).

After Benfield simply erased the fault codes that my early autohold/handbrake failure had left and not addressing why it had happened or putting a proper fix in, 3 days ago it happened again with all the warnings coming on. Since then, autohold has been turning itself off mid journey with no warnings.

It's shocking how low peoples return are on a full tank. We all have to take different routes daily but a 50 quid top up on normal shell diesel I will get 36mpg around town  (I do most of my mway driving on weekends). That is a long way away from the quoted less 10% 44mpg around town. I'm minded to take it in after the car hits 3000 miles (on2300 ATM) and take it from there. The shocking thing is seeing GTI drivers getting near my mpg around town.

Misterp: I know exactly what you are saying. If I though for a minute i'd only be averaging an actual 42mpg with my GTD i'd have gotten a GTI and lived with 35mpg.

10% worse fuel economy than my last TDI despite all the eco tech on this one? WTF is going on VW?

My dad is coming up for a long weekend today - we're going to do some comparisons seeing as the DSG GTDer seem to generally be doing better than those in the manual cars. My route to work hasn't changed, and if anything i've been putting my foot down less to try and coax better mpg out of the GTD.

Once they add ACT to all of the TSI engines, I could see the death of the TDI - you'd have a GTI engine where most would be expected to see 40-45 mpg around the doors and 50mpg on the motorway.

In terms of comparing real life with manufacturers mpg figures - do remember that the tests are done in a lab on a rolling road - no wind resistance!

That means they only really bear comparison with each other...
