Gina... the Golf GTi is awesome... I have done nearly 800 miles and it just makes me smile ear to ear every single day.
I will have to take the Golf R32 out on a dry day as the poor thing is being neglected
Off to North Wales this weekend so going to try Sport Mode

Hope the drive to Wales was good. Not the best weather for it tho. Yep, keep the R32 special, dry & salt free.

Well the old tracker is stuck on 'arrived in UK'. So I guess my GTi is spending Christmas in a compound in sunny Grimsby  Hope it makes it's way to the dealers between Christmas & New Year.

Happy Christmas folks, hope Santa brings you some cool stuff!!!

Its not the salty sea and wind you should worry about, its the acid seagul bird poo
Only kidding, the truck transporters might be on holidays but it wont be long.
It normal takes a max of 7 days to get from the port to your dealership. Has it already been 7 days?

Hi, can confirm it's been there since the 19th - 11days at Grimsby. So yep, looks like the transporter guys don't work over Christmas hols  Also looks like the DVLA don't work between Xmas & New Year either, still waiting for plates transfer stuff in the post.
Don't even talk about seagull poo!!!!!! Thank you iandjm, pleased it's well protected.

Hey, I'm happy if I gets to pick it up 2nd week in Jan, that will do fine. Any later I might get a bit grumbly

What's the best way to swap a private plate to a new car?

Get the new car with its normal plate on first. If your private plate is on retention just follow the instructions printed on the certificate. If you try to get the private plate straight on the new car it can cause delays and will also be a pain at trade-in/sale time later as you won't know the normal number for it until you go through the retention process again.

In any case ensure the dealer makes normal and private plates for you so that the the physical swap is straight forward once the paperwork is sorted out with DVLA.

Yes, Mark V GTD is right. I went to go and sign the retention form at the dealers about 2 weeks ago, just waiting for the DVLA confirmation in the post now. But I was really wanting to drive the new car home with my private plates on. However, from what Marks says, it would make sense to get the dealers to make up both plates.

The dealer said it normally takes 2 weeks to process plate retention at the DVLA. Then you can pick up your new car (when it's finally ready!) with it's normal plates on, and transfer to your private ones yourself.
