Simple answer is that if the K-jet is set up properly it is a strong set-up that has good power delivery.

Until the weather changes, or the fuel is a different grade or someone looks at one of the mechanical components a bit funny.

K-jet done right is both period looking and miles better fun to drive

Period looking?  WTF?  Digifant is 'period looking' too - let's face it, it was fitted to the cars, in the period!  'Miles better to drive' - what a bollocks, subjective comment that is.  Digi3.2 has sharp throttle response, delivers buckets of power and has far less (virtually nothing) mechanical to go wrong.  What could be nicer to drive than that, aside from finding out that if you don't spank it, it returns bloody good fuel economy, too.

To the OP - the biggest gotcha on the 20VT set up is the reverse switch on the gearbox if you're using a cable-actuated clutch and the cam-cover on the brake master cylinder.  It's all pretty much bolt up/splice in otherwise.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I done my last year your need deep pockets as well after i done it i resented it and sold it because how much money is spent on it ,, you will need engine loom decide if you want a hydro clutch or cable then decide on what gear box you want.. I blotted the 8v box back on to keep the rod change at the same time new clutch that gearbox lasted a month .. So I converted to cable clutch and sourced a mk3 gti 16v box abf with clutch flywheel and started motor and gear linkages . Once I done that car felt so much slower with the longer gear ratios with the 8v box it pissed all over my mates 260bhp lcr with the abf box on it struggled to beat my other mates 172 clio sport at this time i had enough .. You will also have to fit a down pipe and get a exhaust fabricated, i sourced a 2nd qpeng down pipe had a straight through b-pipe mated to a omp back box ... There will be loads of niggles had to change inner fuel pump ect as well cost me just over 2k to convert mine

Hey

Its does not have to be real expensive, although define "expensive" ?
i got a...

ARY (180bhp ) complete engine minus gearbox for £400 delivered
A3 gearbox £100
Mk2/mk4 spliced loom off of Ebay £80 (kk i was lucky)
K04 complete conversion kit £350

Would have cost me this total for a bare BAM engine. Which ofc would have needed much more spent on it.

Although it does not stop there. You have the questions of, do you do head gasket while its out of the car? not bad if you do yourself, then there's the cam belt/water pump, £100 plus just for parts, again ok if you do yourself.

G60 fly wheel + VR6 clutch ( unless you wanna keep the DMF )
Upgraded brakes you WILL need.
New suspension/sub frame bushes etc..

Do you want more than the 150-180bhp, ofc you will, if not you might as well keep the ABF engine. So that's another few hundred+ for a remap and associated new/upgraded parts.
No point mapping a tired engine or components.

The other thing people forget is TIME. Ive spent over a year sourcing the best parts i could afford ( which is not a lot. Im a working father of two kids and a high maintenance wife :P ). Most of that year ive been having fun  reading wiring diagrams for the mk2/3 ( as my mk2 has an ABF also ) and mk4 golf and audi TT ( ARY engine is out of a TT ). Oh the joy.

All info is out there on the net, just take your time and look around there's a lot of good people who are willing to help out. Many guides and part lists etc.

Also as your going the k04 route also make sure you get the different turbo bracket, different oil/water pipes, bam injectors charge pipes, I/C. Down pipes seem to be very highly priced also.

The above posts ( a few up ) problems can be alleviated by swapping to hydro clutch with Corrado pedal box and parts and the cam belt cover hitting the MC can be fixed by putting the MC on the off side ( easy move ) or by using a passat diesel rear mount.(easier) Look it up its all out there on the web.

All the best with the transfer mate. Ill be swapping my engine in after Christmas when my job is more quiet. I will try help where i can.

As a side note: I see mk2's on the bay with BAM/BAM spec engines up for 4-5k.

All the best.

Could you explain this, possibly with a picture, please?

This is something I'm in the middle of swearing at on a conversion we're doing.

Also - the Passat diesel mount - Golf2 or 3 subframe fitment?  Any chance of a shot of it?

Always keen to learn from others experiences to save us all time later!

Cheers!

Or turbocharge the 16v :lipsrsealed:

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.
