After nearly selling my car a couple of months ago, I decided to keep so just had another professional detail and re-application of G-Techniq ceramic coating.

Had the first one done 2 years ago so this is a top up.

I guess this and the recent after mkt 18” gunmetal Prets means I’ve repented my sin of new car lust and back in the fold for a while, or perhaps forever.

The British Gas engineer called to do the annual service today and said “I’ve been here before”. I said “have you???”. He replied “yes, I remember the car”.

A while ago I was wondering why the start/stop stopped activating in my car, I thought the car actually had enough of the system itself!

Cut to the other week I went out to the car and it wouldn't start, instantly realised it was the battery as the dash clock was showing 00:00. Jumped it and down to Halfords to get a battery health check and it confirmed it was a dead battery.

Lifted a Yuasa EFB battery, and fired it in (Halfords want £50 to fit a battery!?!) 10 minutes later all done, got away without having to code it in.

Disable Start/Stop it causes premature wear to the engine. A few YouTube videos showing 10K miles on S/S VS non S/S and the wear on the journals and bearings was significantly more on the engine with S/S turned on.Basically Engine Stops and the oil drains then a second of running with no oil when the engine starts again.

Did they code the battery? I would also code the battery if not to let the system know it doesn't need to charge the new battery as aggressive as the old one.

I loathe, hate and detest Stop / Start for the reasons above. Just another emissions dodge by manufactures. If I’m stuck in traffic I don’t need some detestable software vs. common sense in determining when to turn the engine off.
Always disable it as soon as I start the engine, second nature now.

Swapped the PCV valve. Straight forward enough. Purely preventive.
Also touched in a stone chip that was starting to bubble.

Had a gearbox failure on 83k, Clutch pack 1 electrical fault when hot, eventually ended up with only 2nd gear 
Did the ringing around with prices estrimated from £1500 upwards just for the mechatronics unit itself
So ended up removing it and getting it repaired at ECU Testing 48 hour turn-round and lifetime warranty for c.£500.
Refitted with new oil and filter, full service and fingers crossed all good for now.

Just ticked over 50k miles, so it was time for a manual gearbox oil change. I had my local specialist fill it up with Millers CRX 75W NT+ instead of VW OEM. Transmissions is noticeably quieter, gears slot in much more smoothly and the 1 to 2 shift is little less notchy now. Really happy with the new oil! £50 for 3 litres from Opie Oils and another £100 for labour.

Well, since having purchased my Mk7 Performance over a year ago, I had been weighing up a Stage 1 remap....

So, yesterday (Saturday), I arrived at my booked appointment, at Phantom Tuning - Kent, for a Stage 1 and DSG tune whilst they were at it.
My car already has a couple of subtle mods engine wise - PiperX Panel Filter, Turbo elbow kit, and front grill mod.

The DSG tune I wasn't sure about, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.

Spoke to a lad named Rhys, and he answered any burning questions.

45 minutes later, car all done and off I go.

Blimey, a very noticeable difference - 300bhp and a slicker gearbox. The car gets down the road with a sense of urgency now, but isn't a handful.
It's just enough...

Wondered if the gearbox, maybe in a re-learn process, as a couple of downshifts coming into a roundabout, were a little clunky.

Phoned the company and they said, that it will be re-learning it's bite points, and to drive for 100-200 miles, and let it settle down, and go from there.

Otherwise, I'll whip out the VCDS and run an adaption (never done one before).

Overall, pleased with the whole package.
