Does a stage 1 impact economy?
Who is going to know it was previously remapped unless it has bolt on mods too?

In my experience fuel economy (on a manual at least) is slightly improved due to the extra torque. To me it was always the extra mid range grunt that made remapping worthwhile, the extra top end was seldom used.
Thrash it and the economy will be worse, naturally. The injectors will be throwing in extra fuel when in max attack mode. In normal 50/50 driving you should see a slight improvement due to the extra boost over a wider band making it easy to be lazy with the engine.
