Minor niggles.
« on: 13 September 2013, 19:15 »
Drivers wiper left a smear on the return stroke for a while, seems OK in the rain today.

Mpg is nowhere near the + 18% claimed. 10% at best.

Xenons seem to switch on too early when switched to auto, even on 'late' setting.

Overall though this a fantastic car, close to perfection - very close.

Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

Agreed about the Xenons staying on too long. I also had a situation the other night when it was raining fairly hard and the auto wipers weren't activating. Other minor niggles are:

1) Intermittent squeak from drivers door now and again - I don't know if its something to do with the rubber seals
2) Not a niggle but a potential problem - the doors do hold at a certain opening point but its not big enough to get out.    Therefore if you open it a bit further and let go it just swings open. You have to keep reminding passengers (i.e. the Mrs) not to let go of the door. I can see that dreaded moment when it swings open and smacks a wall
3) Lots of stale muddy water being caught on the boot sill, i.e. runs of the roof and just sits on the back sill. It then subsequently drys and your left with a filthy looking rear end
4) The carbon fibre effect being a pain in the arse to keep clean
5) Again not a niggle but a nuisance. When your on the sat nav screen on the MDF and you want to change radio stations, when you change, it doesn't tell you what station your now on. The only way of checking is coming out of the nav function and into radio

Craig, I can't remember if you've had a Golf before, but if not some of these niggles don't surprise me.  Two in particular - the auto wipers: always been sh1t, used to come on when they didn't need to and not come on when it was p1ssing it. The other is the filth at the back of the car - used to infuriate me, the rest of the car would stay pretty clean yet the back look like I'd been through a field. Sounds like the mk 7 has continued with these trends.

I can only comment on this courtesy mk 7 I have, but yes a lot of fogging of the windscreen - highly annoying.

Had both a Mk4 & Mk5 pal but at the time my budget was tight so never had the automatic wipers. As for the sill at the back, well both cars were black and I wasn't really into looking after my cars as much as I am nowadays
