Honestly why would you be prepared to wait ages for a camera. The park assist is perfectly adequate and the camera thing is just a sideshow for passengers

+1  Why let a gimmick (just my opinion of course) stop you getting the car you want??

Camera is pretty useful, isn't the park assist more of a gimmick?

Nope. The park assist on the car is standard and is all you would need to help you to park (you shouldn't really need any assistance to park). The camera being an option is not required IMO.

Havre you not seen Jack Reacher? He wouldn't have been able to reverse into the quarry with guys shooting at him with machine guns without a rear camera. You just never know when it will be needed?!

The car has sensors in the front and rear which beep and show you a graphic on the media unit to warn you when your getting close to an object

We're not talking about the park sensors though Craig.  We're talking about the optional extra "park assist" function that does the parking for you that stuart refereed to as one of his extras.

I agree that the "parking distance control", or parking sensors, are all you need.  However, if it is a choice between the camera and the parking assist I say the camera is less of a gimmick.

I mainly want the camera for the fact I have to reverse blind out of my drive onto a main road, and my stupid neighbours park their Merc Family Van thing right to edge of our diving wall, so reversing is quite often like roulette, the camera is just extra peace of mind.

I had the standard parking sensors on my jetta and whilst they were fine they are totally different to park assist which i have on my tiguan. The camera with park assist is the top set up and certainly not a gimmick or anything to prove you cant park a car. I know i keep mentioning keyless entry but does having that mean your incapable of putting your key in the ignition?

Apologies for the confusion. Yes I was talking about the parking distance control which to me is more than enough assistance for parking.
