Has anyone tried the Whispbar roof bars? About 50 quid cheaper than vw but looks much the same fixings. I can't find any genuine vw ones at a sensible price. Dealer wouldn't do any discount at all!

Genuine ones on eBay are available with a 10% discount.

Yes, I have them. They are great - no complaints at all. Not totally silent but make fasr less whistle than some other bars.

When I went from a Mk VI to the MK VII GTD, all I had ot do was buy new feet for the bars. Much cheaper.

I bought mine through roofbox.co.uk - great customer service.

I tried fitting a Thule 973 backpac (I already had) with the Golf Mk7 fitting kit, to my Golf GTD. But as it attached to the front part of the plastic spoiler on the GTD's hatchback, I didn't fancy hanging the backpac and three mtb's off the door.

I looked at the VW genuine roof bars but they are expensive and IMHO I don't like the look of them. So I bought Whispbar through bars for the extra width and 3 Thule 591's from Roofbox.com. The bars are really neat and once the 591's are attached it's only a 5 minute job to take them off or put them on.

Does anyone know if the Thule Proride 591 fits to the Official VW (Mont Blanc?) roof bars?

I have some aerobars and 2 591s from my previous car but prefer the look of the OEM bars.

Having looked at the VW & Thule systems, I'm still unsure which to go for myself??? The VW ones look good (nice pics Monsta) but are a little expensive. The Thule (proven quality) set-up for the 3 door has the complicated extra short roof adaptor (774) which I've heard cause a little extra wind noise but are a little cheaper. So my dilemma is, buy a proven brand at a lower price V a better looking VW set at a higher price. Ideas anyone??

To top things off, I've heard that late '14 / early '15 3 door models will have a slightly modified roof to allow for 'fixed feet' mounts which eliminates the short roof adaptor for the Thule option and changes the foot pack to 753 instead of 754. As I don't pick my GTD up for another month, I don't have a clue if mine will have the modified roof or not!

The VW ones are excellent.

The matching VW logos help if you have OCD like me

Using them tomorrow to pick up a ladder.
