There are no obvious benefits to ordering a demo I would have thought, but if there is a way round it where a salesman can effectively secure a sale on a split new car labelling it as a demo one day and then selling it off the next day as a demo for 3k less...quids in and happy days for both. There will still be a hell of a mark up. Alternattivly, maybe its down to the fact they were low on sales and needed to meet target. Who knows
