Yes we need to find a solution to our dependency on fossil fuels but I'm not sure fracking is the answer. Does by one know how much of a yield this fracking will produce? Will it be worth it?

Low estimates are not much,  high estimates are energy independence for around 50 years.

some more information about fracking:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_impact_of_hydraulic_fracturing_in_the_United_States

I like this quote from the article:

"EPA investigations into the oil and gas industry's environmental impact—including the ongoing one into fracking's potential impact on drinking water—and associated reports had been narrowed in scope[4][5] and/or had negative findings removed due to industry and government pressure"

What is there to be concerned about? toxic contamination of the ground water? Pah, who needs clean fresh water?

We might as well suck out and use the gas under our feet and enjoy it.  Who knows when an asteroid/nuclear war/super volcano/plague will hit mankind.

There's too much emotion with this Fracking debate...we need real information on what the risks are and if they can be managed properly.

If it can be managed then I say go for it, if it reduces some of our reliance on importing energy then even better.

Many of those Nimby's are probably the first to moan about rising energy prices...but I guess it's ok for some natural habitat to be flattened in some far away country because it's not down the road .
