1.8T running hot
« on: 12 August 2013, 02:24 »
Evening guys, since the hot weather my 1.8t has seemed to run alot hotter, i can feel the heat off the engine and sometimes smells hot if that makes any sense, normally when i park up the fan kicks in,

Tonight i drove home for around 30mins then had the car running while stationary for around 15 mins, when i looked at the guage as i was about to switch off the temp was sat at 100 and as i switched off the fans kicked in, i restarted the engine around 5mins later and it was sat at 95 but quickly dropped down to 90,

Is this normal or is there an issue that needs looking in to?

Thanks..

Should sit at 90. Cars will start the fan after turning the engine off as the flow stops and the heat goes up. I would check the fuses on top of the battery sometimes the green fuses can wear a bit from loose contact so take them out and check the blade. If not probably your temperature sender 5 min job and about £20 of the main stealers. If you have access to VAG-COM plug it in and check the temps on the ecu if they differ from the one on the dash its the sender.

Car seems to feel much hotter at the sides and rear than it does at the front, bonnet will feel cool but rear bumper is really warm. could this be exhaust related?

Thanks

MInes give of heat too, you can feel it from the drivers window. I think its normal mate, also taking into account the turbo sits in front of the firewall.

I've always had a bit of heat as i no they run pretty hot but now the rear seems far too hot, looking around it seems like it could be a blocked cat or something,
