ive never fitted an exhaust to a golf yet!

However I have done plenty on my mgzr similar shape

First step is to ensure the exhaust fits your valance Most websites will tell you if you need a new one and which

And generally its 2 bolts from the back box to the middle section - might take some WD-40 and a Breaker Bar

And slip the old exhaust of the rubber mount

To refit

Few tips get some exhaust paste to help form a seal

And I found washing up liquid helps slip the new exhaust back on the rubber mount

then bolt up and done

takes about an hour?

make sure u jack up the rear of the car and chock the front wheels and where possible use axel stands

Just backbox or catback? Standard exhaust system is one piece from the cat so you'll have to replace it from the cat. This also means that you need to either cut the old system or drop the rear beam to remove it - cutting it is the easier option but that means you won't be able to refit it in the future.

Make sure you soak all nuts and joins in penetrating fluid beforehand and have a hammer and chisel close by. Depending on the condition of your existing rubbers it might be worth replacing them at the same time.

yeah it really is straight forward, just jack it up and check it out first look where the exhaust fits the biggest issue would be getting the bolts undone

if you think about what they go through

weather ect how hot and cold they get hence the breaker bar and WD40

It's not too difficult, jack the car up as high as you can and support it with an axle stand at the rear of each sill and you should have enough access. I did mine ok like that and my coilovers are as low as they can go.

Use a small grinder to cut to old system close to the back box, remove the backbox first. Then you'll be able to remove the rest of the system from the cat without any issues.

Set aside a couple of hours start to finish
