Have we proved that the forum isn't dying yet?..

I'll keep going then........................ maybe a cheap 1.8T......just to see..........................................
Cheap 1.8T... that's bound to cause problems.

As for the forum. It's still going strong and there are people who still come on the forum despite the fact they no longer have a Golf
Some people don't like the forum as much as they used to, and some don't like it when other people express strong views about their car, but you have to accept that forums and the internet in general are places for free speech. If you can't take criticism, then don't post anything.
Online communities change with new members, new cars to discuss, old members leave. It's part of life, it changes.
But it's still the most useful forum I've ever used.

I drove a mk4 1.8t and thought is was slow and boaty

Nowt wrong with a decent MK4.

My dad has had one from brand new, only thing is he bought a crappy 2.0 and that engine was nothing nut problems.

Iv since installed a 180 bhp 20vt and 6 speed gearbox from a Anniversary model.

The Mk4s rust as bad as any mk3, (and they are alot newer) arches where the plastic liner rubs against it and also the tailgate around the handle are problem areas. subframes rust like a mofo on all cars we have worked on - you dont get this as bad on any mk3 we worked on so far..

They handle like a sofa in standard foMr too. much more boat like than a Mk3 but i guess mud sticks

In a nutshell, they are not bad cars, prefer my Mk3 over any mk4 tho, but its hardly a normal mk3 that I drive... that said its never once give me any hassle in 5 years even with the old crap 8v lump.. been a great car, its built solid and no rust..

If i was to start over, and was not going to change engines etc, Id prob rather have the Turbo mk4 over a 16v or VR6 powered mk3...

The difference is that the mk3 chassis rots, mk4s are galvanised. Cosmetic rust is easily fixed, structural rust sends cars to the scrappy in the sky.

The mk4's flaws are numerous and irritating, but rust really isn't one of them.

So..this thread is more of a 'nothing much going on in the mk4 section' type of thing.....

Given that most cars spend most of their time stuck in traffic/parked/going to the shops i don't see why having 200bhp is any better than having 150/180 on a daily driver..
