Think that's probably a wise move. I was the same, really wanted the climate screen, but didn't want to pay for the premium phone package as

1) I have an Iphone (work supplied) and these are not rSAP compatible, therefore I wouldn't get any benefit other than charging - which incidentally I can do by plugging the iphone into the MDI port anyway and

2) The advanced phone package still doesn't give access to VW Car Net as VW UK are not offering this in the UK (despite it only being €100.00 in Germany. This would offer live traffic updates, google maps, google street view, Picture POI searches etc. Whilst non of this is actually needed in the car, at least if I had access to Car net, it would go towards justifying Premium phone package, but as it is, for me at least, it just isn't worth it.

Hope you don't regret removing the screen mjh_056 when it gets to those cold and damp days.  I went through a series of spec changes, including adding and then removing the PP as it's truly something I just don't need.  However, a heated screen was very high on my list, and as much as I don't need/want the Premium Phone Prep, in the grand scheme of things it's not a whole lot extra to pay for that peace of mind.

When you have got the price in head for something and are happy to pay it and then to be told you have add something that you would never use and it doubles the price too! is something that would always rankle with me knowing that useless part is lying there every time got in car - mental thing maybe, would I have paid the combined price for the screen as a standalone?  - It should be part of the winter pack as an added price, problem solved.

Also how necessary is the Advanced Phone Pack? Are they saying all phones need to be connected to it to gain a signal then if select this screen?

I usually have to clear a Mini Cooper screen and my Audi most winter mornings and it is a pain and would love to just press a button, but in reality they are pretty clear in a few minutes on both and given I am not totally sure of the screen ability to clear the thicker ice alongside what I am sure would have been a good job de-misting them quickly then package it all up I actually have readily and easily moved on.

The second generation of DCC for GTi/GTD does seem from all understand to be very good at managing the ride and I do live in a very poor area for roads and I suppose with my current S Line suspension it is a magnifed issue for me as when I hit the bad ones I know it!

There are not many options issues with these GTi/GTD as so much is standard, far less than I was having with the Audi where I was having to compromise on engines even to get a better overall spec, so given the Performance I am getting with that multiple standard options, Sat Nav Winter Pack and now DCC I am not missing out on a lot :)

Yup, it's a spendy option all-said, and it's very easy to talk yourself into and out of options as I did with the PP.  Agreed that DCC seems like a no-brainer, and it's something I also specced given that roads around me are not that great either.

You do indeed get a lot of good kit as standard, just great to be able to add all that I have to make it pretty much my perfect car :)

Edit: Regarding the necessity of the phone prep, I've no idea, but I highly doubt that even a lead sheet covering the windscreen would block out enough radio signals to render a phone useless.  If my mobile phone works in my understairs cupboard, I'm pretty sure it will work in a car with thin glass windows surrounding it (not that I use my phone much in my car anyway!)
