Decat, centre section
« on: 30 April 2013, 19:28 »
I'm going to be upgrading the exhaust in the next few weeks. I've had a little read and people seem to be going for a ebay special 3" down pipe and decat, with a tdi centre section. What are people's thoughts on this?

What centre section will I be looking for, standard or branded, ie milltek? What's the bore too?

Cheers in advance

I don't mean the catback kit mate, just down pipe and decat. Or is the whole kit the best way to go?

I've had both and in my opinion the difference is night and day between the cheap system and a 'hybrid'. The eBay system is very loud, especially at motorway speeds. After driving for any more than 10 mins it becomes almost unbearable...the novelty of the exhaust soon wears off.

My current setup is 3" downpipe/decat combine with a Milltek non-resonated cat back and it is superb. Almost silent at motorway speeds and every day driving, however put your foot down and the noise is immense, it is in a different league to the eBay special.

I already had the downpipe/decat and the Milltek set me back £350 from Dubmeister, you can pick up downpipes for ~£90.

That was my first thought, I watched your videos and the drone puts me off.

So the 3" down pipe/decat from ebay are alright? What's the standard bore size of the AUM, 2.5?

Yeah 3" downpipe/decat is perfectly fine, stock downpipe is extremely restrictive so it's a good upgrade, standard bore is 2.25".

The Milltek is 2.5" but comes with a 2.25" reducer to join to standard cat, I had a 3"-2.5" reducer made up and used that instead.
