I WILL NOT be scrapping the GTi...:-)
« on: 25 April 2013, 16:49 »
Arrrghhhhhhh,

Started to do the rear discs and pads a few weeks back, noticed they were low on friction and disc, and the brakes were sh!te,nice easy job I though, anyways after a few little niggles, got one side done, go to other side, have a prob with a sticky piston, under a bit of pressure, I snapped the line, GREAT!!!, bought a new one..( 2 in fact, 1 OEM and 1 from ECP) then I notice the new line doesn't fit the flexi..under the car...on closer inspection, the numpty who previously fitted it had crossed threaded it...so off I go to but a new flexipipe, £8.32 OEM from VW. Brilliant, got a mobile mechanics out today to fit it, as I was busy with work this week, £48 all in including brake bleed.  He comes out today, saying the next pipe up, connected to the OTHER side,of the flexi, is all twisted, ( i did notice it looked different, when I looked, but didn't think it was twisted) so now need a new pipe, which goes under the fuel tank!!! So need to drop the tank, and hopefully that will sort it, no more probs!! Had enough of it now!!!

Sorry the the rant!!

Has any one any experience in changing this brake line?? It's the '3rd' piece working rear-to-front..

Did the fuel tank have to come out completely...or did you just 'drop' it...is it easy to get to...

It's costing to much already...plus I don't know what I'm doing lol. Have you had experience of changing this brake line?

I don't really want to take it to a garage(it'd have to be trailered for a start)

Might give it a go..what else can go wrong? (Famous last words lol)

Can you not just make a copper pipe, easier to bend and you can just slide it on through instead of dropping the tank?

The scrap people will be rubbing there hands trading a working car for 150 quid just because of a brake line u cant buy another car for 150 unless its a shed try to fix it mate copper pipes u cant make as you need a flaring tool take it to a garage to get fixed if not break the mk4 for bits
