Changing mounts is easy & you don't even have to do it that often, I changed all mine in 2009 and have done about 10,000 miles including track use on standard mounts with an ABF putting out 220Nm+.   The mounts are still fine.

Uprated mounts from vibra-technics:
Front = £189
Rear = £157
Gearbox = £102
Total = £448

And you do all that and the front subframe is still rubber mounted to the chassis rails anyway.

G60 rear engine mount,
1.3 gearbox mount
1.3 frount mount

that'll stop your engine moveing
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Do the gti gear box ones not fit the 1.3 then as they look stronger made?

Have a search re engine mounts, i think previos advice was to use a G60 spec rear and a 1.3 spec front and gerbox mount- as these are the solid rubber ones. some of the GTi ones have hydo dampers, which can fail, and are more expensive to buy. Whatever you fit as a new standard item it'll be loads better than nackered old ones.

I fitted a couple of vidratechnics mounts to my car, initially to help with clearance for an exhaust manifold, but I prefer the standard for general driving. There is a bit more buzz/vibration and noise from the firmer mounts and I culdnt really see any performance benefit over a new standard item, which is about a tenth of the price!
