Just ordered a 5 door GTD DSG Pearl Black to upgrade from my MKVI GT 2.0TDI yesterday.

Managed to get a 9.65% discount from VW main dealer after thinking about buying via a broker (before reading broker comments on here and glad I didnt go the broker route now). Main dealer matched broker price (or more accurately what I told them the broker price was with not asking for proof lol).

Added a few extra to bring the list price to £30,240 - ended up paying £27,320 (2,920 discount).
Winter Pack
Park Assist
Rear View Camera
Advanced Phone Prep
Climate Windscreen
Dynaudio
Keyless entry
High Beam Assist
Matts, flaps & tank of Diesel

Basically getting all the extras for £15 less than the standard OTR price lol

Also got the Autoglym package for half price (£149) - I know there may be some debate over this but to me its worth it at half price.

I know there has been talk on the park assist/rear view camera but the dealer didn't mention anything.

Estimated delivery date of early November though... dealer hopeful it will be brought forward a month......
Still waiting on confirmed build week etc....

Was a cash sale and hoping to discuss a discount on the service pack closer to delivery.

Excellent deal. Well done. I got 9.2% and I thought mine was good ;

Thanks - Just noticed I got my sums slightly wrong - list price was 30,308 making the discount 9.85%!

There are good discounts to be had. I managed 10% discount and a good px for my 60 plate GTD.

Tuck nearly 3 hours at my local dealer but well worth it in the end.

Well I eventually ordered mine from drivethedeal. I did procrastinate about doing so just because of fear of the unknown I suppose. Anyway the discount was 11.15% with delivery a a dealer about five miles away. I will have to sell my current TDI privately but at least I didn't have to sit in a dealership for 3 hours. The dealer has taken a 5% deposit, nothing at all paid to DTD. Delivery is estimated 10/09/2013 order number supplied to me next week. Let's hope it continues to be painless. Apparently as DTD offer free delivery, they always use the nearest dealer possible.

Well done Douglas! 11.15% is most excellent. I got 9.1% buying through Broadspeed but had to pay £199 fee. I've bought my last three cars online as I hate face-to-face encounters with k*obhead sales guys in dealerships. I've had terrible experiences so never again. Give me a faceless form to fill in and press submit... how 21st century

That was my reasoning. I walked into my local dealer and they were really quite rude. What, I want to spend £25k on a car and you can't be bothered? And I was completely ignored despite the showroom being overrun by salesmen in Maidstone. They were more interested in talking to each other than their customers. That's what persuaded me to hit the order now button online. Anyway, DTD have done exactly what they said on their website, they just mediate, take no money and introduce you to the dealer, who takes your deposit and sends you an order confirmation. DTD confirm they have done this and say thankyou and goodbye. Marvellous. The dealer is also sending me courteous emails....

I thought I would add my discount news in for anyone about to order or thinking of it.

I originally ordered a GTI 5Dr DSG Tornado Red on the day orders opened and mentioned a discount to the dealer who said "no chance" as I expected. Oh well, that was what I planned on.

2 days later we had some concerning news at work (bank being difficult etc) and I decided that discretion would be the better part of valour and I asked the dealer to cancel the order even though I had paid £1000 deposit and signed an order which said no refunds on deposits. They repaid the deposit no problem, so I was quite happy.

We have now sorted out the bank at work and so I decided to reorder, but in Carbon Steel Grey this time. I phoned the dealer to make an appointment and warned him I would be looking for a decent discount since Broadspeed and Drive The Deal brokers are offering 9% and 12% respectively. When I went in to place the new order, I showed him a table I had done of the broker prices and the discounts available and he went off to see his manager. Came back 5 minutes later and said they would match the Broadspeed discount of 9% but could not match Drive The Deal 12%. They didn't ask for proof of the discoount from the brokers or try to convince me that using the dealer is far better service etc etc

I almost bit his hand off. Got the 9% on standard car but not on the options (probably could have pushed for it on the options but didn't as I was happy enough with £2500 off list).

The provisional order slot they had given me when I ordered first had not gone to anyone else so I had the same order slot, but they have quoted week 40 for ? build ? delivery ? since I changed the colour. Probably also down to popularity of DSG ? Anyhow, I can wait until October for that level of discount.

The moral of the story: don't be afraid to ask for the discount and use the broker prices and discounts as a lever. It was easy to achieve and no hard sell on finance, paint cover, gap insurance or anything else.

allycat45: Good result, but you were lucky to get your deposit back when you cancelled! DSG is not a delaying option judging by what is coming through on the early UK fulfilled orders. My dad has a GTD DSG on it's way from Emden in the next day or 2 (it is waiting dockside right now).

Did you have a p/x to offload? You're always in a far better position to negotiate without one, as thy'll probably punish you in it's valuation in lieu of discount on the new one.

In the same boat as you I ordered at the end of March and ended up with just free GAP and servicing for my troubles (no discount on the car itself), but an excellent fixed p/x priced. As my build week has been put back, the equity in my p/x keeps getting bigger, to the point that it will be twice what it was when I placed the order. Because of this I feel like i'm in the same position as someone ordering now with a decent p/x price and a decent discount.

Some dealerships are quieter than others - they're the ones that'll be discounting right now and once the early adopters have theirs and initial demand has been fulfilled I would expect discounts of up to 10% to be the norm for anyone who pushes for it.

Judging by your order number prefix of 2317xxxx I would summise that they haven't placed any other GTI orders in the meantime to have reinstated your cancelled order number to you. They must be quite keen to get a sale!

sh!t.  I ordered 2 months before allycat45 with a similar spec and get the same build week...

Nice discount though mate!  Well played, I didn't think it would still be possible to get a good discount now the popularity has been proven.

The build week is estimated at 40, but not yet confirmed. The tracker still shows "processing your order" a week later.

I am trading in the wife's old ford focus (11 yr old 2.0 Ghia, 75k miles). They offered me £650 first time around as PX which I accepted (probably too low in hindsight as its about the same as we buy any car.com's figure). When I reordered last week they conveniently left the PX off the order form, but I reminded them and they put it back on at the same figure. I have written off the value of the focus in my mind anyway since we've had it for 10 of its 11 yrs, so £650 off the new car seems OK. Maybe I could get a few hundred more selling it privately but who needs the hassle? The only hassle is that they want 1 month MOT when I trade it in and the MOT expires mid-October. Let's hope it passes ...
