problems cold starting
« on: 05 April 2013, 14:36 »
Got a mk3 1.9d. it has problems cold starting which has been recently getting worse. in the morning it usually takes 2-3 attempts to get it started. i turn on the glow plugs twice till i turn it over. and the same when i finish work. yesterday it didn't start and had to bump start it.
it has a faulty thermostat (always open) and only water in the cooling system.

anyone got any ideas to what the cause could be? I've been told may be glow plugs. bought a new thermostat today and that will be getting fitted once I've flushed the system.

Any help would be much appreciated. cheers.

fix thermostat, measure glow plugs with multimeter individually (should be 1-2 Ohms or thereabouts for each plug).

check fault code, maybe something in there.....

yeah +1 for the glow plugs.  New set required I think!
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
