Bugs the fcuk out of me when people come on here saying theyve just spent there hard earned money on a car and the replies they get are "should of brought a turbo" i know its just banter but if the op spent 1.5/2k on it the last thing they want is someone saying they apparently wasted there money !

Welcome to the forum bud my mate has a 1.8 a3 on 220k so plenty of life left if you look after her :D

Thanks mate, only paid £520..it's not my daily...just a lil project and something to mess about with.

Not sure when it was last serviced..when cambelt was done or anything! It seems straight, few little problems, I had it diagnostic checked today, there was 1 fault code for the coolant temp sensor, which would explain why then the temp gauge plays up...

The airbag light is still on...flashes soon as ignition on, then settles to a solid orange light.

Like I say it's not my daily, it's just a little project to work on...and keep on the road....lets face it...in 20yrs time..when the GTi is rare as hens teeth...you'll all be thanking for keeping it for the scrappy haha

I can take banter...be warned...I give as good as I get :-)

Thanks for the welcome..It's much appreciated

I see the trend on here is to swap out any engine and run a 1.8T, is this the only option for turbo'ing your golf?

I have a 16v GTI, ABF engine, my shopping list includes forged rods and pistons, ABY manifold (one port cut off and welded up)  and S2 turbo to go on it, just turbo the ABF lump, I know a MK2 now that has 500BHP+ on this set up.

I too bought my MK 3 for a few hundred quid and will only be using it as a track car, so a slow and steady build, I will be starting by evicting the tin worms that have eaten the sill

well you could be the first to twin turbo it? would make for an epic build thread and sounds like you have a sturdy base anyway i'd love to get a 1.8t as a mod car but as it is, my 1.8t is currently the only car i can do anything to and all the surrounding expenses do slow things down, currently...
