Hello all,

I bought my self a '98 S' VW Golf GTi, as a project... it's a 1.8 n/a 125bhp with a whooping 151k, tatty bodywork and interior, seems to drive ok, has a little whine on the O/S/R wheel, hopefully a bearing! It has a few little niggles which I hope i can sort out. It had led rear lights, I'm not a huge fan so took them off and put on some standard GTi ones...looks a lot better :-)

I do have a few issues with the car, should I list them, or do new threads per issue..to keep it all together?

Look forward to finding new friends and solutions to my problems :-)

its a non turbo but if it was cheap i would prob run it till it dies

in otherwords welcome to the forum, run this car into the ground or get an engine transplant on your finance books is what theyre saying or if you got it cheap use it until you've saved up enough for a 1.8t, tbh in the current climate you're probably more economical than most of us here

151k isnt that bad, youll get another 50k on that as song as you give it some new oil occassionaly. as said, list all the problems in 1 thread and wait for the answers to come in. glad u got rid of the led lights, hope you smashed them lol
as you say that whine is probly a wheel bearing. i had a wind for aaages, changed cv's, bearings the lot but it wasnt cured. until i got a puncture one day, put my spare on and it was a bent wheel!

Could of been worse he could of bought a 2.0....

in a more serious note if the car is at the point where it would cost less to buy a 1.8t rather than to do the bodywork and a possible transplant to a 1.8t then as said run it till its proper minced and get a 1.8t because there is fook all you can do with a 1.8 n/a

Thanks for the welcomes and pleasantries lol

I paid £520 and 20 Berkeley superkings for it lol, my plans for it are:- keep it! And standard-ise it

I don't mind how much it costs as its my 2nd car, if the engine blows, I'll put another in lol.

I needed a lil project to keep me busy during the weekends when I get bored. I have a interest in VWs steaming back to my childhood when my dad had many Sciroccos and Golfs even the odd Polo in there aswell.

I have a MK5 05 plate GT TDI too with 135k on it, FVwSH and have owned that for around 3yrs now.

I will do a quick search before I list my problems(also if I encounter anymore) as I know how annoying it is when You answer the same question 46000 times :-)
