Having been there, I would have a go at installing the baby seat in the rear of the car (Mrs Buck wasn't keen on baby up front as the air bag might go off
)
Once you have baby on the scene you can decide from there rather than changing unnecessarily - lots of people cope with a three door.
Personally, we found it a real pain getting baby in the back on a 3 door so opted for the 5 door
Even now the boys are 10 and 7, 5 doors works best unless you like scuffed seats and trim from them clambering in and out (IMO)
You train them to step OVER the sills not on them!!
Getting them in a front facing baby seat is actually easier with a 3 door. Hold child, fold seat forward, lower your botty onto back of front seat and use it as a rest so you are then facing the child you are trying to strap in. Do up straps, lift your botty off back of front seat, hit front of your head on top of door frame as you clamber out.
With a five door you have to bend whilst holding child and swing them into the seat. Bend awkwardly whilst fiddling with the straps and then have to back out of car to stand up again and you hit the back of your head on the top of the door frame instead as you emerge half stooped looking like a Neanderthal.
When the child is really small then a rear facing seat is required which is best off in the front. Mum or Dad sits in the back and can then reach forward to soothe child when it screams or drops bottle or whatever without any unnecessary messing about.
Been there and wrote the book...
