You're not too far from me, if i see anything local I'll let you know. I think your biggest issue will probably be insurance though if it's your first car (assuming you've just passed your test). I'd check relative costs on the 8v vs 16v to see if there's any difference there. Also 8v will give you a little better mpg too, which is a big consideration nowadays! Petrol is getting on for double what it cost when I passed, I feel old
Also as others have said you may well find a 5 door cheaper, but (IMO!) 3 door is cooler
