Hey guys
I have been having a few problems with my coolant level that keeps on dropping. Anyway yesterday the warning sign came up again to check the coolant and it was very low. I also checked the oil level, which was fine, but a little grey/cloudy or as some have put it the mayonnaise effect. I also checked the oil filler cap and this was disgusting and very thick, and pretty much the constancy of mayonnaise.
I am hoping the head gasket hasn’t gone, but if it has how much would you expect to pay for this to be repaired at an indie located in South East London?
I booked it in for a full engine flush and oil, oil filter and spark plug change, and also asked for them to pressure test the coolant system. The mechanic on the phone said that because I am mainly doing short journeys the oil does get pretty rotten pretty quickly, and if I haven’t experienced any power loss (which I haven’t) then he doubts the head gasket has gone, and that it might be leaking into the timing belt crank case (or something to that effect)
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with the coolant/mayonnaise oil, and if they have what was the cause and what was the fix?
Fingers crossed come Thursday the car will be fixed and a lot happier with its new clean engine and oil.
