Did you copper grease the threads?

Pretty damned lucky I'd say to get even the first one out like that! A lot of the time it's a head off job.

Pretty solid engines though, don't worry about the swarf it'll just bore itself out to 1.7 litre (or 1.9 or whatever engine dependant).

Yep, I was prepping myself for a head off job.

No copper grease, never have and probably never will.  Never had a problem like this with plugs I've fitted and I didn't fit the ones I had to remove.  I'm not convinced copper grease is any good long term in a super hot area like this.

I'm pretty sure I did well to prevent any sh*t falling into the cylinders.  Motors not bad, its an early 1600 Zetec.  Only issue its given us before now was a sticking valve which was an easy fix.

Nah not too bad motors really. My old boss didn't care for his one single bit. Some heavily diesely petrol caused the engine to cut out once and knock like mad. 5 mins later was absolutely fine but the oil level had shot up.

For Bristol street always grease the threads. You just knock roughly 3nm torque offf IIRC on those motors. Does help prevent seizing.

Better go have a moan at the NVQ board then cause they tell ya to do it! As does NGK in some applications on the box and just give a reduced torque figure.

Yes, I would like it to be known I was no way involved in the purchase of this vehicle 10 years ago.. It owes us nothing, other people have have tried to kill it twice, written off twice!    It's just a slave to us now, when it finally demands some ££££ then it shall go, until then, it will soldier on while it continues to cost very little to maintain.

Yarp, greased sparks = unnecessary.  FYI, these weren't really that seized, the sparks were fooked.

Good find for the his and hers, but no thank you.  Anyway, the only thing that car shares is the colour, V6  cloth trim  and three spokes  all worse than what she has.

First time for me although I did have a Sierra many many moons ago that would let me take its sparks out prior to selling it so never bothered changing them.

I saw the top of the pistons on the escort and there was enough sooty gunk to catch any little bits that may have fallen in!
