Sticky Throttle....
« on: 03 March 2013, 16:59 »
As the thread name states i have sticky throttle on my MK2 Golf GTI 8v, its mainly when the car is cold but i drive around 90 miles a day in the car and on the motorway the throttle becomes very stiff and very difficult to maintain speed without a substantial amount of pressure on the accelerator.

Just wondered if any of you guys have either had this issue or know of a way to adjust the "stiffness" of the throttle.

Any reply/help will be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks,

Stu

I have had a similar situation with mine but with the throttle was sticking when pulling up at junctions...

I would suggest greasing up the out side of the throttle body and then take off the air inlet pipe from the air box and clean the butterfly valves with Carb cleaner....

If not any of these could be your cable needs replacing & check the pedal connections...

I have had a little look at the butterfly valves they are free moving (well, not blocked or gritted up in anyway) how would i check the cable? just visual check? if it looks shoite replace it?

+1 for the throttle cable.

Mine had become "notchy", especially after prolonged periods of really wet weather. Changed mine mid way through last year and it made an incredible difference. Best to avoid after market stuff IMO. Ebay or VW heritage is your best bet - not too expensive IIRC and a POP to fit.
