How long have your top mounts lasted ?
« on: 24 February 2013, 23:22 »
My golf is down 60mm on the front and 40mm on the rear . i fitted the shock and spring kit in september 2012 with new front top mounts and bearings and new rear top mounts aswell , new lower arms and all new engine mounts (front mount on hockey pucks )

i then done a 4-wheel alighnment on it as where i work i have access to a ramp with lasers ect , set the camber up on the front to what the machine said it needs to be (mchine has mk3 golf values in it , i just adjust relevant parts until values are in the green ect )

anyways that was september and i suposse probably just over 10K ago now ,

when driving the car goes nice and straight and even when holding the wheel straight it will wonder either left or right , i normaly just put this down to the road but i think the top mounts are worn after looking today the o/s one sits about 5mm or so high , and the n/s one i can get my finger under and is slightly on the piss ,

i also get a knock when letting the clutch up "with some agression" so i have play somewhere but can i find it , no i cant .
and sometimes when slowing down in gear i have a vibration

they where top mounts from VOLKS BITS and cant remember what make they were , i think febi but not sure on that ,

when i stick it on the ramp they drop down flat against the strut tower /turret but i cant find any play , suposse 1tone on them compresses them and they may be in the early stages of death ?

so i was wondering how long have you top mounts lasted and anyone got any pics of how their top mounts sit in relevance to the strut tower on good and duff mounts ?

I thought as much, do they have any play in them when new up+down ?

Also are all the top mounts the same as in do all top mounts fit all cars , mines a 1995 which if i remember had a bigger spring so would the pre 1994 ones use the same top mount ?

just curious as there is so many top mounts out there ( i know the cheap ones are sh*t ) will get febi ones from tie rod . think these are right ?
