What clutch do I need for my 20vt?
« on: 24 February 2013, 21:32 »
Well I have had her just over 1 week and the clutch is starting to pack up!  She is originally a VR6 but now has a 1.8 20v Turbo engine from an Audi TT. What clutch do I need, difficult to fit and how expensive?

All of a sudden I love everyone on here who lives close to Milton Keynes and can fit VR6 clutch's

I will call around some car part places and get some prices in the morning.

It might not be the vr6 clutch, lot of options depending on what gearbox was used.

Also pay extra and get a sachs or luk kit.

To be very honest with you mate.....No

Since owning I have come across a number of things that are not so good. My local mechanic who has specialist with my Cosworth and has a large garage that he owns said he would have failed my car on a number of things for the MOT, yet it came with 12 months MOT?  But instead of getting the hassle and that the MOT was done nearly 4 weeks ago via the previous owner I have just bitten the bullet and put my own cash in to her to get her looking how I have done with all my Golf GTI's I have owned over the years..... well back to 1992 when I first bought a MK1 Golf GTI, so some years I have owned them. Bit annoyed though that I was sold the car from the false advert. Without sounding big headed but people who know me round my way as in doing doorwork, Kickboxing, Bodybuilding, in construction.....although we specialise in demolition when needed so I am rather strong and not one to be upset, yet all the members I have met off here over the years know I am a big softy and always see the good in people and help out for free as much as I can......I saw the good in the seller, obviously I was wrong   It would be so nice if people were more honest.  Anyway.....Sorry for slight life story and rant!

I feel for you my friend.  Yes the owner should have been honest in the sale but in todays world its just

not like that.  Thing is, it's quite easy if you know someone who does MOT for them just to stamp it all

up.  Makes sense if the people you know and trust are saying it would fail MOT for various reasons.  Good

thing about this site is that there are plenty of people who know what they are talking about and will help

you with your car issues (I am not really mechanically minded esp with your set up)  Hope you get it sorted

Thank you mate

Indeed she has become my project!  I will get her back to her former glory. I should take some progress pictures really.

As Wayne said, all depends on the gearbox used in the conversion and defo go for a branded one rather than the cheapie ones.
If you are a novice I would say don't bother trying but if you like to get your hands dirty then go for it, will need 2 of you at least and an engine hoist would be beneficial.
Good luck pal, shame about the dodgy MOT, I know of places that will give you one without even looking at yr car
I value mine and others lives too much so No thank you!!!!

Exactly bud......I have my 2 girls in the car with me the majority of the time. One is 14 and the other is 4. If something bad happened and it was due to the dodgy MOT then the person who sold me the car and the MOT tester would be eating Hospital food for a long time!

How do I find out what gearbox it has bud?
