My boot is totally flushed so no handle, lock etc. So I need to install a switch up on dash that will pop the boot open on the press of the switch. Any ideas on how to do this? Had a Google search but no joy.
I did this on an XR2 when I had the boot de-locked after some s**t forced it.
I used a "push to make" button switch from Maplin that was placed under the dash (but was still easy to get at), and a generic central locking motor that also came from Maplin. I don't know if Maplin still sells the central locking motors singly or not, now.
You could use a solenoid, but motors were stronger and more reliable (less prone to failure).
Mine was wired straight in with its own fuse, and would open with the ignition on, but it was somewhere that wouldn't get bumped by accident when driving, etc. I'm sure there's a relay that can be used which will deactivate it when the ignition is on.
This should also be able to be wired in to some alarm systems with an extra button for such things.
Example switch (there are many other styles)
