Thanks for everyones responces, so far I have installed the RCD 510 which was very easy, however been given the wrong radio code so unable to see if all is working well 

VW Daybrook should be supplying code over the next few days so will let you know how i get on.

Thats something you should always check on when buying a used VW radio. VW should find the radio code via the serial number on the radio but they may charge you.

Just a quick update on this changed the stereo too less than 10 mins and all functions are working well.  So in conclusion no coding required
