tdi auto box wont go into top gear

I saw a passat 1999 and was curious if anyone knew if an expensive fix? or what it is

Usually 5th is the first to go on a manual box when it runs low on fluid. So at a guess, the box is low on ATF. Although, I'm not sure how the planetary gears are set up on an auto and if its subject to the same weakness.

Thanks for reply. I was hoping it be quick fix like something like that but cant seam find out what maybe it a whole box prob not worth buying even if cheap. Usually most major box issues the box dont go into drive at all I thought.

Start with the basics, try fresh fluid and clean the filter or get it scanned and see if it has any fault codes stored.
