Hi all,

Recently bought a Mk4 GTI 1.8 and if you dont put the key in the ignition within something like 30 seconds the alarm goes off. This is getting really annoying, is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks

If you disarm the alarm then do not open a door for 30 seconds then it will rearm, If you open a door then the alarm will not rearm.  This is a feature on Cat 1 alarms, just incase you accidentally disarm it in the house or summit

...which I must say, happens to me all the time mainly when you get out of the car, go to the boot, stuff your hands with crap and then try to lock it and put the keys back in your pocket. I always end up disarming it again... Thank God for that!

If i leave my door open and don't put my key in the ignition then it tries to arm itself and then the alarm goes off cos the door's open.  Very annoying

i think you might be able to get this feature removed within the vagcom sofware that links to your mk4 via a lead to a laptop, you can change and alter many features of the alarm and other electrical bits on the car!

Yes you can disable it with vag-com, you can also pretty much tailor it to your needs using various different key-press combinations. Altering your alarm in this way though completely voids the Cat1 certification, which might be a sticky point in the event of an insurance claim :undecided:
