For some reason im thinkin with it being a wider alloy i would need a wider tyre?

Also if i get 225/40/18s for rear on my "9J" wheels

What do my Front "8J" wheels need?

I had 215/40/18 on my 8j wheels which gave a slight stretch. Nod 225/40/18 on a 9j which gave a little more stretch.

Depends if you want any stretch or not. Look in The maintained section for the tyre and wheel thread, there's a link to a site where you can type in different size wheels And tyres to see how they fit.

Would I want stretch? Any benignity to having the 225 than the 235 wider not better?

I ran same spec wheels 225 on the backs 215 on the front. I had 225 on the front before and they are ok but if I remember it caught on the front when it was lowered right down. Also I liked the look of 215 on the front the stretch looked even with the backs

Image below is for a 9j wheel with a 225/40 tyre ET35. the orange square is the size of the new wheel and the black lines coming from the corners is how the tyre will fit.

Tyre Size Calculator

The green square is the original wheel with the original size tyre

Now 245 tyres

Now 255

etc

Now for the fronts

215

225

235

Other things to remember is if you are low on the rear a wide tyre may rub the arch so the stretched tyre will give clearance. And on the fronts the tyre may rub on the strut or coilover adjusters.

Also bigger tyres are more expensive so are the non popular sizes.

Heres a pic of my 9J ET30 wheels with a 225/40/18 tyre

I SEE! ha thats a pretty good explination!

Well i would want that same sort of look rather than a straight up tyre wall.

What tyres are people putting on i had toyo proxi's T1r's on my 16s but they were wearing down very fast!
