its currently running 17's on 40 rubber, is this ok to go down to 15's with 45 rubber?

Go for a 45 profile but get a slightly stretched look.. will look good on a 7"... you might struggle to find tyres to fit though with a stretched look...
Speak to the two people below there pretty sh!t hot on stretched look..

only problem with stretched is that you risk them rolling off the rim with fast turning.

Going back down to 15s will actually make your speedo more accurate seeing as its running on 17s at the mo.

not sure about fast turns.. mines been alright so far.. Just u have to watch out for kurbs.. as no rim protector.. oh and pot holes..

excuse me for being a bit thick - but whats this stretched look?

All I want is the correct size tyre for 15*7, its my daily driver so don't want anything thats going to cost me a fortune to keep on top of, or cause me any turning suspension probs etc...

its done for cosmetic reasons, makes your wheels look fatter than they are.
