Cutting out Problems

the 1.8 20v gti (non turbo) is not 'drive by wire' it has conventional cable from throttle pedal, and they do have ht leads!!, there just hidden under all that engine plastic!!!, they turbo model had coil packs ontop of each plug but the 1.8 20v has got a single multi coil unit with no distributer but all the 'ht' leads come from this!!!

Coil packs are definately a problem on mk4s. This is the first place i'd look.
