Right guys yesterday driving back from work the car let off a massive bang whilst driving along, pulled over straight away (wasn't giving it any) driving into my road about 20mph in 3rd

checked all tyres thinking one may of popped as it was that loud, then on pulling away I had a crunching sound, so then I thought great gearbox..

was able to get all the gears and pull away fine just noisy

after getting it back to my house and closer inspection I have a huge oil trail from the roundabout to mine with oil splatter like an oil painting under the car:

Looking at a 6 speed conversion,  is it easy to do? There'sone on ebay i'm going to buy with everyrhing for the conversion

Details of the ebay item are:

Gearbox sale includes conversion kit made up of:

Left and Right drive shafts
Clutch and flywheel
Clutch hydraulic line (shorter than a 5 speed if you wanted to use for conversion)
Starter motor
Gear linkage and shifter
Gearbox mount bracket
And all necessary bolts

An invoice for work carried out (reconditioning) is available on collection of the kit, and it is collection only.

Is there anything else i would need? (will be doing it myself with friends)
Just don't want to do a job and get stuck lol

Right, as you all know my gearbox broke, finished it on the Saturday (my birthday)

So my present to myself was to have the car back on the road

Needless to say, I am never doing a gearbox on a driveway again haha, it was an absolute nightmare

Step 1 of the removal:

After taking the gearbox out i found...

The bits that broke off...

A friend for my birthday got me the 2003 Golf Brochure, thought it was a nice little gift

Then he did a little something extra..

Well when the gearbox was still out I thought it would be best to sort my squeaking starter motor, now I've done it I'm extremely happy, and feels strange that it doesn't make the noise any more! haha

After cleaning and re-greasing all the necessary parts, I put it back together

Replaced the gearbox with a reconditioned one done about 3,000 miles since off a friend luckily.

Also whilst i was at it i decided to single mass, and clutch it

MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT, i couldn't actually believe it.. feels so much better

Haven't got any more pictures of it going in as I was too busy to take pictures, but treated her to some love today and cleaned:

And that was before the black hole, and wax [:D]

So happy I'm now back on the road   couldn't of done it without a handful of mates
