Rear LED coding help.
« on: 21 December 2012, 21:33 »
Just had my LED's coded changing Byte 18 to a value of 4 and all seems well apart from one thing.

Have now noticed that the main bulb on the inner part of the headlight is now lit up when sidelights are on and when dipped headlights are switched on.

If I then flick the headlights to main beam the inner lights brighten and create a normal high beam pattern.

I am guessing the coding has turned the DRL's on with side lights and dipped beam, as nothing is on with lights completely turned off.

Actually looks quite good and has improved dipped beam performance, but not sure this is correct?

Any confirmation appreciated as I have confused the hell out of myself with how the lights should work.

I had the same problem, changed the coding to 15 and this cured it.

Ah ok, the thing was it was only offering a drop down menu with options and 15 wasn't there, we couldn't get it to let us input the binary code '00010101' to create the 15 under Byte 18.

How did you overcome this?

Thanks.

Doc and me had the same problem when coding my Led's, mines a 2010 with halogens too, i think we used the coding from this video.

Hi Jimble, thanks.

Had seen that video but it wasn't allowing us to enter the binary value, just ad a drop down menu.

Going to check that it's the latest version of the VCDS software and have another go this morning.

Hi Phil,

Glad you are enjoying stage 2! The the dealer adjust the settings to suit your car? I.e boost fuel timing??

As for vagcom, on the latest version you are right, you cannot put in the binary value. So what you need to do is have a look at the video again. After he puts the code in the box byte 18 turns to 15 and he circles the cursor round it? If you look above that you will see a long line of numbers in a row which is the same as the values in the  individual boxes. You will need to count along to see where byte 18 is and manually put 15 in. Hope that makes sense lol!?

P.s if u dig through the history on here I am sure my code was e4??

I found that using a value of 4 gave me the same symptoms as the OP, the DRLs were only on with the side lights and the side lights were faint.

I found this info on the VW Vortex site and using a value of 15 in Byte 18, this cured the problem, I have halogens.

MJ2009 with BCM (03xx software)
Encoding   VCDS Byte 18 = 04
Lights go out at the tailgate opens   NO
Error message MFA   Rear fog lamp with Resistance: No
Problem with front parking light (weak light)   NO
LED tailgate light up more when braking   YES

MJ2010 with BCM from KW22/2009 (Software 0537, 0541)
Encoding   Halogen VCDS Byte 18 = 15   Xenon VCDS Byte 18 = 43
Lights go out at the tailgate opens   NO   Update on 0575 / 6 *
Error message MFA   NO   Update on 0575 / 6 *
Problem with front parking light (weak light)   NO   Update on 0575 / 6 *
LED tailgate light up more when braking   NO   Update on 0575 / 6 *

Thanks Mustard

Kenny - no idea what settings they used, if I email them would they be able to confirm? Sorry new to this type of tuning :embarrassed:

*edit* a value of 15 manually entered into the long code in Byte 18 position and all sorted, big thanks to Richwig83 over on www.mk5golfgti.co.uk for doing the coding and you guys for your input

Bit of help should anyone need it next time....

Sorry to bump this but it might help someone. I just coded a mk6 with LED rears and i could not get the correct 'bit' number in byte 18.... as there was a funny drop down box with limited options. What you have to do is not use the long code helper, but copy the long string, copy it into the box below where is says 'New Coding' and edit the correct numbers, then click DO IT!.

Thats the drop down box... no option for '15' and no option to edit the binary value.

As you can see i have manually edited the string, entering 15 in the place where byte 18 is.

Hope thats of help to someone.
