You could try these people for mk3 engines www.audivwparts.co.uk. They have always been good to me in the past.

just out of curiosity what kind of gains are we taking about here, and would boring it out to 2.1 be possible with having to change the pistions etc

hp wouldnt significantly change... but the torque figure would, the 2.0l does give much more of a pulling sensation and mated to a pb head and p&p and cam you have a great engine

ouch, there goes my forum cherry...good to finally join the noise!

yep, bigger bottoms are the way forward...just bought an entire 1990 Passat 2.0 GL on the bay for a whopping 99 quid!
Head gasket is gone, but so will the rest of the car once its 9a block is in my '89 16v...i will do a rolling road test once she runs again to see what figures this cheapo weekend swap gets:

165k KR Head, 50mm inlets, KJet fueling
2.0l 9a block
oem exhaust/air filter

Passat has 150k on clock...my valver has done 165k so everything should be nice and sloppy too..!

Any other advice guys n gals?

If only my Volkswagen was as reliable as everyone else's...

Boring out to a 2.1 is really only possible from a 2L block. Not straight up from a 1.8L, mines been done from a 1.8 up to 2.0 and increased power by just shy of 50bhp, and increased torque by just under 50lb/ft too. I really need to look into getting more torque out of mine would be good to get it up to about the 180ib/ft mark.

hi all,
isn't the 2.2L the same block just a bigger bore?
so for more power could this be fitted just as easily??
