Thanks guys for of your comments. Is the £400 estimate a fitted estimate?

no £400ish is about the price for the kit (springs and uprated shocks)

fitting is fairly straight forward. i did mine in about 3 hours on the driveway. the rear is a doddle. front a bit more involved as hub must be pulled.

a garage would prob want 3 hours labour i reckon

i got a price for VWR springs (no shocks) at pulman VW and fitted they wanted about £400

Don't think I dare tackle this one myself, as I'm not great on the tools! Good point about VWR springs though so I've emailed by supplying dealer to see how much they could do this for. Will keep you posted.

I did the Eibach v H&R thing for my ROC and went with Eibach and it looked just right, not silly low.

It didn't affect the ACC but ride was harder never the less, moving onto the ED35 which in mines is also fitted with ACC and the first thing i noticed was just how much harder the Eibach lowering on the ROC did compared to stock ED35 set up.

The ROC needed it due to silly fresh air height under the arch on 18's.

Having been there I'm in no rush as my personal opinion is the ED35 is right without tweaking both in ride and look.......

for me aftermarket rims on stock ride height has never really done it for me but that's just me, similarly if your engine is never going to be mapped I wouldn't bother sticking any other hardware on it but would invest in the suspension department

springs wise i always thought the H&Rs were then were on mk5s sat too low at the back, everyone one i've seen on eibachs looked spot on, i had a set put on my rocco to sell it and they were great in terms of ride but didn't transform handling, for me the VWR route doesn't give value for money these days and only a few dealers offer their product with a warranty but you pay a hefty premium for the privilege

for me i'd go down the Bilstein B12 kit route as you will notice the difference and forget the rest, you'll have a greater looking stock car which is more fun to drive

i know out of our Pirelli and the Ed35 which is the better handling as a result of B16 Pss10

I've got VWR springs w/ std shocks and they're fine. I got the springs on the cheap so was a no brainer really

Dealer has just quoted 4 hrs @ £60 per hour, that sounds expensive to me?

thats about right. most main dealers are about £50+vat/hour labour

i would have expected them to quote at least 3 hours too so theyre on par with what i got quoted.
