Mk3 ABF - Oil and Mayo....and noise....
« on: 08 December 2012, 16:16 »
With the poor running my car has had recently, i've replaced some of the vac lines, which has sorted it...happy days :D

Red lines are the new ones:

But... :( I have, in the following order from Left to Right in the 'wells' for the spark plugs:

1: A little oil - 2: A large lake of oil - 3: A small lake of oil - 4: Nothing! Clean as a whistle! Not had the plugs out yet to see what they are like though.

Also, the breather from the bottom of the engine to the black square plate is coverd (2-3mm think) mayo!?

Oil is just below Max, and i've not put anything in it since i bought it. It also uses a bit of coolant, but i think it's leaking from the right side of the block (looking from the front). I've cleaned out the breathers best i can for now, it'll be serviced pretty soon, so i'll probably replace the breather aswell as it feels pretty weak anyway, but why would it be covered in white stuff? I was thinking as it's loosing a little coolant it may be the head gasket gone between oil and water ways? The coolant is as it should be though, no oil floating and no oily smell to it?...

Engines filthy under the manifold, so i did wonder it it was simply a case of the last owner spilt a load of it if it needed topping up?

You always get mayo build up in the breathers from the crank, its from short trips etc.
Oil in spark plug wells means you need a new cover gasket, it ruins you leads and plugs so these may need replacing if its been like it for a long time.

Oh yeah, forgot to edit the title, couldn't upload a recording! The car sounds like a TDi! I think it needs adjustments, I'll see if someone can have a look when I do the rocker gasket :) I'll also do the small line under the manifold while I'm at it!

Are there any other vac lines to replace?
