biasi and ferroli are the devil. fit one at your peril. worcester bosch are mid range and vaillant ecotec plus are top end.

Loads of engineers fit the rubbish ones so they get the breakdown work once it's out of warranty.

we only fit worcester bosch boilers on the basis we get a 7 year guarantee on them so it pays to spend a little bit more on the boiler. £120 + vat for a pump is a bit of a joke, we buy grundfoss pumps for £55 + vat!

get britishgas boiler cover mate about 11quid a month and all parts and labour included as well as yearly service. also you could have tried british gas one off repair, before i got cover they quoted me £114 to repair over the phone, it turned out to be a waterlogged pump, boiler was a worcester greenstar, so with callout, labour and part they had to stick to quoted price

yep what had happened was we had very heavy rain lashing against the back wall off the house where the flue terminal was, now as the terminal is low down the water had run back down the flue and saturated the pump electrics and apparently burnt it out, hence waterlogged. it happened on a second occasion but this time had left a puddle underneath the gas valve and the wire to the valve was lying in the water causing a short. the problem of water has been solved by drilling some holes in the outer case of the flue where it meets the wall so allowing rain water to drain rather than run down flue.
does that explain waterlogged pump well enough for you guys now?

Right, so basically, there were an ingress of water onto the electrics causing a short, rather than this bullsh!t term of waterlogged pump.
