Right. disposable income varys. i got paid at midnight last night. when i got money out before going to the pub i had £900 odd left over from last month. i dont know how much now cause i feel like ive drank that 900 away :D

credit ratings fine. ive looked into it. had a credit cars for 2 years for uae in emergancys hen i wasnt earning as much so think thats bumped it up. had some bird from vw texting me about cars shes found matching the spec of a new car i was looking at i.e second hand mk6 gtis with 20k on the clock sort of thing. and shes said ide be able to finance.

no in a couple of years i dont want to be living at home. but lets face it. whem you buy a house you pretty much have to sell everything you own to get a deposit so ide probly be selling what ever car i have and driving a 1ltr saxo or something

and i was going by the mpg from autotrader or parkers which was saying 20mpg at a push.

You say do this when im 25. But thats going to be when im looking for a house/have kids/have more responsibilitys. so im thinking do it now when my only wory is can i afford to go out on the lash this weekend.

Single, live at home, likes beer.  Needs good mpg.  3K to spend.
The answer is an MX5.

We have all thought about doing it mate...But in the long run, which is what counts, that wouldn't be a sensible move. Like getting a credit card when your 20 and thinking yay I'v got loads of money... :embarrassed:, and then having to worry about the credit card shuffle for the next 3 years!

The cost of living is ever increasing in more than one way, and wages/salaries aren't keeping up. Owning a car will not keep you pleased, hence I imagine, why we are all here talking about best mods and tricks!

I cannot afford a 1.8T with 300hp like some of the guys in that section...But I my best in keeping up in my DERV as I know I will probably never get a crazy fast car as I'll always have other things that I'll probably have to spend money on, like living!

Buy a fast diesel mate and as said, get 50mpg how ever you drive!

At the end of the day it's your decision, I would look at the bigger picture tbh. The amount of money that you will lose with the interest on the finance would go a fair way towards a house deposit.

I'm 25, I almost got a MK5 on finance before I got my MK4 last year and now I am so glad that I didn't. I bought a house in Sept and I know that I wouldn't have had the deposit/solicitors fees/money to spend on the house if I had been blowing £300 a month on finance.

Oh, and re-read what I said

Have your mid-life crisis in 25 years when you can afford to

Credit only becomes a problem when you can't afford the repayments, as others have said consider the longer term and think about cheaper fun cars....if you can save another couple of thousand which from what your saying should only take a few months there are loads of fun cars available

When I was 21 I ran a 2.3 turbo 240 GLT, was cheaper to insure than a Nova SR and more fun.
I suggest you look outside the norm for cheap fun, it amazing what you can find and run for cheaps.

With respect to stacking up debts while at home, I built a full studio on credit while living at the rents.
If I knew what I know now I would have pissed less away and bought a house during the early 90's recession.
When you have a Garage you can entertain cheap fun motoring a bit easier
