help with a fiat punto
« on: 21 November 2012, 15:18 »
hi all,
my friend has a fiat punto that has a flat battery and the bonnet is jammed shut. I havnt been to see it yet because im not sure if its worth me going.
I was wondering if you are able to bump start it if the battery is completely flat? the ignition wont turn on at all.
i dont want to run it up the road if theres no chance it will go.

Yeah you should be able to get it started by bump start, just make sure you are trolling fast enough!

so still turn the key as if the ignitions on, (it wont be as theres no power) and just give it a good push? lol.
should be funny seen as theres no brakes without power! haha

Most cars wont start with a bump if there aint enough power in the ignition system at the time. Brakes will still work enough at low speed, they are just assisted with the engine running.

You won't bump it without a long tow to get a bit of charge going.

Pull the release cable out of the handle inside the car and use two pliers to pull the cable while holding the sleeve.

Normally does it on Puntos. If not warm the bumper at the top under the bonnet with a hairdrier and you can push it down enough to get to the catch and move the release lever.

Done a few.

Charge the battery via the 12V lighter socket for a bit.  Then with your car still connected to the Fiats 12V socket try turning the Punto over.  Quite easy really (just keep your car running).
