Fluel flap release replacing MKIV Golf GTTDI?
« on: 17 July 2005, 10:32 »
Hi, I have a problem with my fuel relase flap in that it is constantly open and the button inside the car no longer works.
I noticed that the release button (the thing that the flap clips into) inside the fuel release housing is missing...I have booked it in with vw and have been told that it is the motor inside the housing in the "c pillar" that has gone and a special tool to get at the motor is needed and I couldn't fix it myself  I feel the sound of being ripped off coming to mind.

Does anyone know how easy it is to fix and if so how, I would appreciate it?

Hi I have a golf gti turbo with the same problem, I have read the haynes manual VW are chatting nonsense as usual, you can do this yourself. the solenoid just pops out from holes once you unclip the wiring to it. To be honest I have yet to try this myself so if you get there first let me know how it goes!

I was quoted £14 for the part, £80 per hour labour and they didn't know if it was going to take an hour. (I hear the sucking through the teeth sound!)

thanks. Just about to go and get a copy of the Haynes Manual for myself. Was tryng at the weekend and got everything else off without breaking anything but got a bit edgy on the rear quarter panel inside and had to leave it.

thanks for the replies.
