Wife has the 8v version. They are surprisingly good cars imo. Don't get me wrong, they're no frills motoring. Distinctly avarage in every respect, except when it comes to insurance! They are in a league of their own! We had to find a car which would cost the minimum to insure due to my wifes absolutely horrific driving skills! And being an 18 year old new driver which your missus's daughter is, I'm assuming this is playing a massive part too. Honestly, who usually drive a Skoda Fabia? Old people is who! All the young lads that read Max Power drive Corsas, Fiestas, Clios, and Polos right! No young lad with a reputation to think about would drive a Skoda, so they don't get battered like the rest of em! (hense the seriously low milage on the one your looking at, and the one we bought too. (2000 model with 38k)). On the same note, who breaks into, and joyrides in a Skoda Fabia? (excluding the VRS) Nobody is who! Therefore they are extremely low on the insurers risk charts. We too looked at a Polo 6n2 1.4 16v, Corsa 1.0 and 1.2, Fiesta 1.25, Fiat Punto 1.2, the list goes on............ The best we go insurance wise on those for the missus, was £2700! Didn't think she would be able to drive again to be honest. Had a look at the Fabia in 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, and even a 1.9 tdi, and all were under £1300 for her! With the car and the condition and milage we found, and her insurance, the 8v was the one we went for, although if I had researched it a little more, a 16v probably would have  been the better option. Seriously go for it if I were you/her Steve.
