Stage 1 is quick enough for the road. Doesn't tie the car in knots and it can get the power down in every gear past 2nd no problem.

I would go stage 2 but its alot more expense for what the gain is.

I've said before and I guess snoopy just reiterated the point - stae 1 feels very smooth/progressive and OEM just a bit more of everything.

The reason I like the stage 1 set up is its very useable

Not really Steve, the reason I posted this it shows the difference.
When I drove a mk6 with intake+miltek+stage1 from all the talk on here  I was maybe expecting more than I should have.
Yes it was better and did temped me. Yea it reved better, was free'er flowing ,less held back, went a little better, was very smooth, but it wasnt to me that different. The video shows very much what I felt.

This is the first post I have seen on line of someone having a Luke warm reaction to the difference in performance between a stock car and stage 1 tune.

IMO the standard cars performance is very lacking and needs a proper kick up the bum to make it 'exciting' to drive. Once I have had my down pipe and stage 2 Revo map I will report back my experience.

My only concern is that I had an '03 Civic Type-R which had been supercharged and had 285bhp, was ferociously fast and a huge amount of fun. The Golf is a good 150+ kgs heavier so I am hoping I am not going to be disappointed, we'll see........

Acceleration tests don't tell the whole story especially on the good old highway ulube, two years ago we tested my stage 2 roc (200ps one) against Revos stage 1 GTI at Brunters and was in the mid range where it really showed I'll have to try and dig out the figures as the were Vbox

I know Revo are benchmarking stock, stage 1 and stage 2 performance on their demo car at the moment

Oddly I've never found any of the Stage 1 maps I've tried from the big three that linear give all give you the surge of torque, the rocco was far better as a stage 2 car but trade off was zorst and intake noise so it ceased to discreet, the IHI was cracking as a fast road car given the lack of lag compared to a K04 car but always left me wanting more at the top end

I ran with intake and zorst for a while and stage 1 and only noticed the difference when we went to stage 2 as the stage 1 map is not optimised for the hardware

I totally get why people stick at Stage 1, our Pirelli is Stage 1 and will remain as its a great daily, sold the roc running the 95 Ron Revo stage 1 and was a nice set up

Sounds promising

How much louder is the intake and exhaust going to get once the stage 2 map is added as at the moment it hardly sounds any different to stock and my balls may be hanging over the fireplace if it attracts a lot of attention being driven normally by my wife

i totally agree with the lack of top end. the IHI unti does just seem to plateau at 4000rpm> which makes the car not feel as quick as it actually is

its very strange for me at first coming from an NA car which redlined at 7500rpm and made all its poer above 5500rpm!

im sure stage 2 is better in most areas and the figures would prove it and if someone were to give me it for free i would probably do it but for what my car is used for stage 1 is the best compromise.

a noisy downpipe does put me off also and ive had an intake and hated the noise it made so that limits me to stage 1 also.

i had a milltek on the rocco and only got noisy when pressing on after 4,000rpm, the 3" Milltek on the Ed35 behaves  in a similar manner but is definitely more vocal, i don't mind admitting in any tunnel i open the window and drop it down a gear or too, i always thought the ITG for the tsi was quiet but if you got it right it made darth vadar noises

im sure stage 2 is better in most areas and the figures would prove it and if someone were to give me it for free i would probably do it but for what my car is used for stage 1 is the best compromise.

totally get where you are coming from, for me a i'd take a Stage 1 car with a decent suspension set up and arbs over a Stage 2 on stock suspension as I know which will e the better drive point to point
