Catch Can
« on: 23 October 2012, 17:23 »
Emptied my catch can today and was expecting an oily kind of liquid but
found it half full of murky, rusty water with a tint of petrol smell

Tell me this is normal please

Thanks.

it's not rusty water, just oily

that is perfectly normal.had catch can set up on my last trackday scooby and all that ever came out was petrol smelling water...sign of a decent running engine.turbo cars run better with a catch can anyway as the oil mist that it catches would normally go back into intake and that reduces the octaine rating of the fuel.saw an extra 11bhp on my scooby after fitting one.

oil vapour lowers the octane of fuel

mine ran only on 99ron fuel and the car ran so much smoother after the can was fitted.you should check the inside of your intercooler and see how much oil vapour is going into your intake.well worth while mod and even fitting my spare one into my mk4 1.8t even though its standard.
