I was averaged doing 100.31mph by an unmarked car on a motorway, at a very quiet time, and got 6 points and £200 fine + court costs. This was almost 2 years ago. I held my hands up and apologised, said it was stupid etc but they had it all on video, so it was an easy one for them.
I was always observant of police, but the motorway was dead. There was one car in front doing a similar speed and one car behind (the one who happened to be a copper).
Now I'm even more observant. Any car that is catching up is suspicious, so I slow down. Any new car.. BMW, Ovlov etc doing 60mph is suspicious, slow down. I may have a short blast, but I never 'cruise' at 100mph anymore.
I think having a 1.4 can be dangerous but it depends where you live. If popping to town and back, city driving, it's fine I'm sure. But for overtaking and pulling out on to 60 or 70mph roads, it is much safer to have some power, in my opinion. There have been times in a 1.4 when we have gone for an overtake, it's been clear, the car next to us has accelerated and another car is now visible and approaching us. Do you brake and pull back in, or carry on and hope you can get past? Arguably a risk you shouldn't take in a slower car, but how many people would be happy sitting behind some old biddy in a Micra doing 35mph?
