On the rare occasion I agree with R32UK, it's the Police's job, they get paid for it and they should do it to a damn high standard. Just like our nurses, paramedics, firefighters, soldiers and so on and so forth do....
If you're a sales director and you meet your targets every week/month then you're considered to be doing a good job and you'll most likely get to keep it, you don't necessarily expect praise for it, because it's what you've been employed to do. On the other hand if you're in the same position and you fail to meet your targets time and time again, then you will invariably be 'let go' by your employer, it's a fact. Basically if your employed to fulfil a role, no matter what job it may be, then doing it to the expected standard is a primary and necessary objective and shouldn't require praise.
I think the reason why the people are so surprised when the hear 'good things' that have been carried out by the Police force, is because you only ever hear about the 'bad things' in our media and generally it's always over emphasized.
On another note, look at the NHS for example, people that have barely any connections with it at all, can generally always be heard to be slagging it off and slandering its reputation and that is often the portrayal that our country's media propaganda puts out too! But anyone who has ever really needed to rely on the NHS, will be able to identify that it is a beautifully run organisation with fantastic intentions and it is of great credit to our country and society. It just so happens it's understaffed, overworked and generally pushed to the limits.
How many good stories do you hear in the news.....f**k all, that's how many, because our media cares not for the good in this country and generally good news is far less dramatic, it doesn't have that 'Hollywood' edge! That's why you've got people like Russell Howard making ironic programs like 'Russell Howard's Good News'.....it's making a mockery of our media and society and rightly so!
It's in our nature as human beings to be able only to look at ourselves subjectively in a mostly negative manner and we find it hard to view ourselves in a positive light. It seems our country's media has adopted this principle in the most insincere and callous way imaginable.
I say big up the Police and any other f**k*r who does their job well and f**k the media!
