G60 Brake Upgrade Pad Problems???
« on: 08 October 2012, 23:27 »
Began putting the front end of my project 16v back together over the weekend.

However . . . . . . G60 carriers fitted with new Apec discs and new Apec pads.
Attempted to refit the 16v calipers only to find they wouldnt go over the pads,
To be accurate the caliper is just wide enough to slide over the disc and pads but fouls on the sliders.
Made sure the piston was pushed right back but still no joy.

It seems that the pads / disc is a couple of mm to thick causing my problem.
I have measured the thickness of the pads at 16mm from outside of metal backing to pad surface.

Has anyone come across this before when doing the upgrade? Am I missing something obvious?

Cheers
Jake

Don't know your exact problem but I have heard when mixing mk2 brake parts with G60 stuff you may need to use thinner pads, not sure what model they are from though. Good luck!

256mm calipers run a 20mm thick disk
280mm calipers run a 22mm disk

if you run 256mm calipers with 280mm carriers and disks you need to skim some meat of the pads

There are two types of G60 pads one is defo thinner
Give euro carparts to confirm.
I remember having two boxesfor viewing for the G60 pads so all I did was bring in the disc and caliper and mock fitted on there desks LOL

Problem Solved!

Gambit you were right mate,

I now have G60 carriers fitted with 22mm thick G60 discs
16V calipers with shaved down G60 pads. (2mm approx off the outer, inner was fine)

The info that i found says the 16v pads are thicker than the 16mm G60 pads but I still had to shave them down.

Cheers Everyone

I found with my g60 upgrade the g60 pads were too thick there the same as 16v yet 16v ones were thinner so put them on and everything was sweet

You actually need to turn the end of the slide pins down and use 16 v. Pads on hybrid 280mm upgrade. Been there on my valver
